PSST!3 will be screening in Barranquilla, Colombia tomorrow at Festival Espectro, Dec. 4th from 6:30-8:30: More information here. It’s the first screening (that we know of) in South America… Wish I had a few days off!
This is the trailer for an upcoming documentary by Danfung Dennis that I stumbled across yesterday via Lloyd Alvarez. Stunningly beautiful photography, and an epic soundtrack – perhaps a bit too seductive, though. The pat cliches of the commander exhorting his men into battle are absurd. Change history? Really?! In this war there really isn’t an easy narrative to hold onto, or anything to believe in. More here.
“I keep hearing that Americans are concerned about gargantuan budget deficits. Well, the idea that you can control mounting deficits while engaged in two wars that you refuse to raise taxes to pay for is a patent absurdity. Small children might believe something along those lines. Rational adults should not.
Politicians are seldom honest when they talk publicly about warfare. Lyndon Johnson knew in the spring of 1965, as he made plans for the first big expansion of U.S. forces in Vietnam, that there was no upside to the war.” – Bob Herbert, 2009
Anyway something to think about today… What the fuck are we doing over there?
